Hi Albert, thanks for offering your help! I would love to talk about opportunities at Protiviti and learn more about consulting. Do you have any free time to chat in the next few days?
It's a pleasure meeting everyone - Aleksey thanks for putting this together!
I'm based in NYC and work for a real estate special situations investment firm focused on NPLs, originating high-yield debt (mezz, pref, senior bridge loans), and opportunistic equity investments (rescue capital, Secondary LP positions). I am always happy to be a resource for anything real estate related.
I'm also generally interested in private equity/VC investments (pre-seed/seed & other early stage angel investments). I have general interests in Fixed-Income/Credit investments and on the PE side like smaller closely held businesses across multiple sectors.
So amazing to see you here Jeremy! I personally learn so much from you on our calls and the folks on this platform should definitely take you up on this - very nice of you to offer your time.
Hi Everyone! My name is Stephen and I am a recent graduate of Arizona State University. I am having a hard time finding a position due to COVID-19, and am actively looking for any roles in the Financial or Real Estate Space in the Scottsdale or Greater Phoenix Area. I sat and passed the CFA Level 1 Exam during my senior year of college and will be sitting for Level 2 in 2021.
If anyone has questions regarding the CFA exam, I'd be more than happy to provide insight on my experience with the exam! Look forward to talking with more of you!
I work in the REIT and ETF industry and would be happy to chat with people who are interested in learning about that space! Please leave your LinkedIn URLs below with a comment on how I can help you in your career on Wall Street!
Hi David, I've worked in REIT equity research for three years and would love to share ideas and learn from your experience in the industry. I believe you may already even get our REIT research from SMBC. Very cool that you posted and are part of this! https://www.linkedin.com/in/jay-kornreich-95293132/
Wow, this is great to see everyone's comments! Thanks Aleksey:) I work in an x-ray machine company doing machine learning, computer vision, and software development. Also, I am making an AI stock trading recommender on the side. I would be happy to partner with like-minded finance entrepreneurs to make a fund if all I needed be involved with was to work on the models:) I saw a few people mentioned that they want to transition into machine learning. My advice would be that its important to know how to train a model eg pytorch/tensorflow, but also how to deploy those results and/or integrate the machine learning with new/current software. Eg to the web/cloud/embedded. From what I can tell, most machine learning roles are full stack developers + machine learning, rather than just machine learning. So a person needs to learn and be able to make projects in at least python and maybe Javascript or C++/C# ecosystems. There are a few research positions involving writing machine learning papers in some specialized startups and FAANG. And then there are data scientists' positions, which need some data analyst experience and/or a PhD. Happy to connect. https://www.linkedin.com/in/marckendal/
Hi Marc. Great seeing you here! I'm really interested in working on similar projects involving AI and the stock market. I requested to connect with you on LinkedIn.
Hey Everyone! My name is Matt Jackson and I am originally from Melbourne, Australia. I moved over to Phoenix Arizona to play basketball and study at Grand Canyon University. After receiving my Masters I transitioned into Wealth Management and now work on a team of 3 including myself at RBC Wealth Management in Scottsdale. We specialize in managing well diversified and time tested portfolios and guiding our clients through the accumulation, retirement and estate planning phases.
My main goal joining this group is to network, create new relationships and learn from what seems to be a very driven and successful group of people. With that in mind if there is anything I can do for you or any advice to those who are pursuing careers in the Wealth Management industry please reach out. I am new to this field but happy to offer any advice and knowledge as to how I have and am currently navigating through!
Thanks for joining us, Matt! I'm sure there will be a ton of people who'll take you up on this, and I just wanted to say thank you in advance for having a giving mindset.
Hi everyone, my name is Asaf Naymark. I've been working as a commercial and corporate lawyer for hi-tech startups in Israel for the past six years, until April. Since then I've been looking to change careers, particularly to software development or machine learning, while spending my time playing with my kids, learning, pickling stuff, making sourdough, staying physically active, and taking some legal translation side jobs.
I would love to hear about career change from those who have done it, and about software development/machine learning from those in the field. I would also love to share my experiences becoming and working as a lawyer, and starting and having a career in a foreign country.
Thanks for joining us Asaf! Fun fact - I was interviewing at Bridgewater Associates at some point, and one of the other people in the room that was also interviewing for an investment analyst position was a partner at a huge NY law firm! Pretty amazing to see you have the courage to make such a major career switch and hope this platform helps you in a small yet tangible way!
Hey Asaf, nice to meet you. I recently made a career shift into the world of programming -- started my first job 3 months ago. I too have been living in Israel for a few years already, so the foreign country aspect wasn't so challenging for me, but I definitely didn't feel very confident in my Hebrew when starting.
The good news is that I'd say software development is one of the best fields to get started in for a later-in-life path, as a formal degree is much less of a requirement. I learned on my own for a while, did a 3 month bootcamp, worked on some independent projects, and then lucked into finding a really great job. (Huge thanks so Aleksey "coincidentally" 😉!!)
You're far from the first walking that path, and I'd be happy to share some of the advice I've both heard, and given to others seeking a similar career change.
Thanks Michael! I think we actually touched base earlier this summer when an acquaintance put us in touch, although I can't remember who...But now, a couple months later, I'd love to chat and hear more advice from you.
I would also love to hear views about the market for juniors going into machine learning - is there even such a market? :-) - versus software development.
Ha, you're right! I hadn't put 2+2 together there! Can't remember who that was either. I have a friend who did a year course in Machine Learning, and said that he felt it's harder to get started in your first job from that background, compared to software development. Those fields tend to be somewhat more selective about formal education in specific disciplines, as opposed to programming where it's more of a question of just can you get this job done. That was a big part of my decision to start with this, and possibly pivot in that direction after a few years if so inclined.
Hey everyone! My name is Reuben Nach. I am really excited to grow my personal, professional, and networking skills through this awesome platform.
I am currently in a rotational analyst program at the National Bank of Arizona, which is a subsidiary of Zions Bancorp. Real Estate has always been a passion for me, both commercial and residential. I've had internships at STORE Capital REIT and Berkadia Investment Sales in the past.
Hello everyone - my name is Kate Martin, and I am a rising sophomore Honors student at the University of Arizona, triple-majoring in Finance, Law, and History. This past summer I interned at BGK Capital, an investment management firm in Arizona and will be working with them through this fall. If anyone is interested in learning about my experiences with valuation, research, and alternative investments, please feel free to reach out!
I am looking to pursue a career in Finance / Investment Banking and recently completed the Citi Freshman Discovery Program and RBC's Freshman Discovery Day. If anyone would like to connect over a shared interest or has any questions about these programs, I'd love to chat! Additionally, if anyone has any advice as to how to navigate through college and the internship process on Wall Street and/or Finance careers in general, I would love the help!
Kate - nice to see you again! I was at Citi for a few years on the Markets side, but would love to provide some insight into the internship process, particularly at Citi. Let's connect
Hey everyone - my name is Eric Blumenthal and I’m the director of client strategy at a NYC based marketing technology called Attentive Mobile. I’m hiring for entry, mid, senior level client success managers. My company itself is hiring for most roles as well. If interested, feel free to comment
Hi Eric, I'm interested in applying for Attentive Mobile opportunities. I came across a few positions that I might be a good fit and would love to chat with you!
Hey everyone, my name is Etai and I am currently a senior at the Australian National University, studying finance and international business. I'm interested in the CRE and VC worlds, and I've previously interned at an REIT as an analyst, which also is now looking into entering the VC world, and I really enjoyed that! I'm currently based in Australia but am always looking to expand outwards, in terms of potential employment and networks. I joined mainly to learn more about the real estate world and to expand my network, and am more than happy to connect with those in the community! While I don't have too much to offer I have some IB interview prep guides which i'm more than happy to send over. Eager to the community!
So exciting to have you here and I respectfully disagree with "I don't have much to share" :) There are folks in this group who would do anything for some advice on how to get into the internships you got into, for example. The list goes on and on - super important to be humble at all times, but also don't forget to recognize the things you can bring to the world!
Hey Matt. Im an Aussie and am studying here (Australia), and am based chiefly out of Sydney. However I would like to make the move across to a larger financial hub eventually.
Hi everyone, I work at Bloomberg in the Financial Sales & Analytics team. Would be happy to connect with anyone interested in the company or in my experience. And for those looking for a new job, I know we actively hire recent grads as well as experienced professionals coming from both Buyside and Sellside.
Thank you for putting yourself out there Emanuele (cool name, btw!). Way to go - getting used to giving to others is the best way to learn to network. More on that coming next week..
Greetings, I had been an equity analyst for a small hedge fund in Beverly Hills since 2016; the virus has led to the shuttering of the fund, so I am actively seeking a new role where I may add value and hit the ground running. I spend the bulk of my workdays doing research on publicly traded companies' (both on the long and short side).
However, I lack substantial experience within the world of real-estate. I'd appreciate if anyone is willing to share some of their experiences/ideas with me; I'm seeking to achieve a better understanding of balance sheets and how liquidity works, especially with respect to public REITs (I have my eyes on you @Aleksey, @David, and @Jay)!
What would you recommend to a novice to better his sense of value in such a dynamic marketplace?
I work in sell side REIT equity research and would be happy to discuss the industry. Please leave your LinkedIn URLs below with a comment on how I can help!
Thanks for offering the help. Would appreciate talking to you about sell side REIT. I've previously interned at buy side REIT and would like to learn more about the industry. I'm currently a senior at the Australian National University.
